Set during the Qajar dynasty, it is a fantasy on the pattern of fairy tales of "One thousand and one nights", which presents a condensed history of Iranian cinema and expresses the love of cinema. This comedy is probably best appreciated by those who are familiar with Iran's cinematic traditions, including current censorship rules. A Charlie Chaplin-like cinematographer introduces the magic of movies to the Persian court. The Shah has 84 wives and 200 children, but after a screening he falls desperately in love with the film's heroine. In some cases, the screen characters leave the movie they are in and interact with real-life people. The film concludes with a anthology of clips celebrating the history of Iranian cinema. |
