Brief introduction This experimental indie rock quintet initially began when the Win Butler spotted Chassagne singing jazz standards at a local art exhibit at Concordia University in their hometown. In 2003 the band signed with Merge and prepped for their first studio album. Despite the solemn existentialist overtones, their music is quite uplifting, combining The Flaming Lips' theatric pop, Joy Division's driving rhythms, Bjork's blissful euphoria, and a million other influences into something at once exuberant and wistful.
