It's an inter-racial, inter-generational drama focusing on the relationship between a 75-year old retired Turkish nationalist judge Rifat, and a 6-year old Kurdish orphan girl Hejar. 

Remaining in his secluded world, even as police murder his Kurdish neighbors, Rifat subsequently receives an uninvited guest in the form of young Hejar, a young girl who proved the sole survivor of the massacre. The Judge has a hard time deciding whether to hand her over to police or look for her other relatives. Hejar's uncle, like millions of Kurds, has been rendered a refugee, living in poor shanty dwelling outside Istanbul.

Problems arise like when the old man insists the little girl speak Turkish whilst she insists on speaking her mother tongue: Kurdish. But gradually with help from housekeeper Sakine, Hejar and Rifat learn to overcome the barriers that separate them and form a unique friendship.

电影讲述的是两个民族和两代人的故事，发生在一个75岁的土耳其民族主义的退休法官Rifat和一个六岁的库尔德女孩Hejar之间。

Rifat过着与世隔绝的生活，某日警察杀害了他的库尔德邻居。一位不速之客出现了，她就是小女孩Hejar，这次屠杀中唯一的幸存者。法官很难决定到底把她交给警察还是去找她的亲戚。Hejar的叔叔像千千万万库尔德人一样沦为了难民，住在伊斯坦布尔郊外简陋的住所里。

麻烦逐渐出现，比如老人坚持要女孩说土耳其语，而女孩却坚持要说自己的母语：库尔德语。不过慢慢地，在女佣Sakine的帮助下，Hejar和Rifat消除了障碍，建立起独特的友谊。
