After a three-year prison sentence, Che returns to the coastal town of Nanfangao, a port in northeast Taiwan, where he was raised. Three years ago, Che's brother Ren stabbed the son of a powerful crime boss Shun, Che assumed responsibility for the crime and went to prison for his sibling. Ren has spent the last three years in Japan with their father. Now they are also back because the father wants to take up some unfinished business with Shun.

Che spends time with his ex-girlfriend Pei,  who’s now mute from some emotional trauma. Later, they travel to the island of Lanyu in order to visit Che's mother's grave. But the situation between his father, Ren, and Shun has escalated to dangerous proportions. Che decides to assassinate Shun and things spiral towards a violent end.

一哲在服刑三年后回到了台湾东北的港口小镇南方澳，他就是在那里长大成人。三年前，一哲的弟弟阿仁刺伤了势力强大的黑帮头目阿顺的儿子，一哲顶替自己的兄弟进了监狱。这三年阿仁跟他们的父亲一起躲在日本，现在他们两个也回来了，因为父亲跟阿顺还有生意往来。

一哲则跟前女友阿佩呆在一起。阿佩因受情感刺激现已不再开口说话。后来他们一起去了兰屿岛为一哲的母亲扫墓。然而父亲、阿仁和阿顺之间的形势逐步发展到危险的境地。一哲决定刺杀阿顺，一个暴力的结局渐渐临近。
