Alain Tanner’s first feature film. Unimpressed by the young demonstrators that he saw in May ’68 in Paris, the director was more struck by the elderly people marching alongside them. So he made this film telling the story of an old man who abandons his comfortable bourgeois way of life.

Charles is a 50-year-old business man. On the 100th anniversary of his company's founding, he gets depressed and starts worrying about the workers in his factory. After a television interview Charles leaves his comfortable life and his business behind. He meets an anarchistic couple who push his car over a cliff as a symbol of material rejection. He shacks up with them. Charles's daughter sees him with the couple and is delighted he shares in her liberal thinking. But his son traces him and has him shut up in a psychiatric clinic.

Alain Tanner的第一部故事片。导演对1968年5月在巴黎看到的那些年轻示威者不很感兴趣，但却被那些游行队伍中的年长者所打动。所以他拍摄了这部电影，讲述了一个从资产阶级舒适生活中退出的老头子的故事。
