The old is too old, the young is too young

This oft-overlooked masterpiece of Italian Neo-realism tells a story of the family of a railroad engineer Andrea Marcocci. Andrea is proud with his work but loses his job after an accident which gives the company the idea that he may be drinking too much. Meanwhile, some catastrophe occurs in his domestic life. Two children run away from home. It leads him to a feeling of encroaching despair. The only constant is his little son Sandrino who takes all the family's ups and downs personally.
