Jaffa is one of the world's oldest port cities near Tel Aviv and also a city of paradoxes. It epitomizes the difficult dialogue between the Jews and Arabs living in Israel, as well as the common values they share.

In Jaffa 20 year old Mali Wolf is the daughter of garage proprietor Reuven. Reuven employs two Arabs, father and son Hassan and Taufik at his shop. No one suspects that Mali and Toufik have been in love for years. When Mali finds out she is pregnant, they are planning to run off to Cyprus to get married.

However, a crisis erupts between Mali's brother Meir and Toufik with the latter fatally injuring Meir in an unfortunate accident. When tragedy strikes, Mali and Toufik's relationship is shattered. But Mali decides to have the baby and lies to her parents.

When Toufik gets out of prison Mali is torn between allegiance to her family who has helped her raise the child and her lover who is still unaware of the presence of his daughter.
