If he doesn't get the operation, he'll be dead in four weeks; If he does get one, he'll still be dead in less than a year. Though Ayoub is all of 12 years old, he has become the head of the household. In order to pay for the operation that might prolong his brother's life, Ayoub joins a group of smugglers who traffic truck tires to Iraq. They struggle to get their overburdened mules through snow covered mountains by plying them with alcohol. The eldest sister agrees to marry an Iraqi Kurd, willing to care for the brother. At the border exchange, however, the family of the Iraqi Kurd rejects the sick boy. References: |
