The debut of the French New Wave. Agnès Varda is in consequence known as "The Grandmother of the New Wave".
Set against the backdrop of a small Mediterranean fishing village, the film (Edited by Alain Resnais) comprises two storylines developed in parallel fashion. A young man returns to his hometown with his Parisian wife. They make one more effort to save their failing marriage. Meanwhile, shown in a documentary-like realist style, the locals struggle against the economic domination of the big combines.
又译作《短角情事》，是法国新浪潮的首部作品。Agnès Varda因此被称作“新浪潮祖母”。
