This highly stylized film is an adaptation of the 12th century Arthurian verse by French belletrist Chrétien de Troyes. It chronicles Perceval's Knight experience amongst the Knights of the Round Table, and also contains the crucifixion of Christ.

The film conjoins medieval passion with modern standpoint. It makes no attempt at situating the characters in a natural world. In contrast, it is deliberately artificial in style and setting—the perspectives are as flat as in medieval tapestries, the colors are bright and vivid, and there is also a singing chorus that participates in the drama. More astonishingly, characters usually narrate their own actions and thoughts, and dialog is frequently spoken lyrically in rhyming couplets taken directly from the original text.

这部高度风格化的电影改编自十二世纪法国文学家Chrétien de Troyes的亚瑟王诗歌，叙述了圆桌骑士Perceval的从武经历，还加入了耶稣受难的情节。
