Based on the Chiloé's myth of The Ship of the Dead.

In this classical surreal film, a sailor meets a student who has just murdered his tutor. The student is forced to listen to the dark anecdotage of the sea dog. These bizarre adventures  encompass macaber life, seedy opium dens and  the brothels.

The stories take place in a vividly surreal world that Ruiz and veteran cinemotagrapher Sacha Vierny fashioned out of real locations in Paris and Portugal using a series of ingenious optical effects.

在这部正统的超现实电影中，一个水手碰到了一个刚刚杀害了自己的家庭教师的学生。学生不得不听这个老练的水手讲述他那黑暗的陈年往事。那些奇异的冒险历程都是围绕着与死亡擦肩的生活，还有下等的鸦片吸烟室和妓院。

生动逼真的超现实世界则是由Ruiz和经验丰富的摄影师Sacha Vierny在巴黎和葡萄牙实地塑造的，他们使用了一系列构思巧妙的视觉技术。
