Considered the first Surrealist film, it uses startling imagery to discuss sex, lust, morality, spiritualism, man's inhumanity, and hypocrisy, among other things. The clergyman represents both spirituality and alchemy. His rival here is a militarily officer  who comes to confiscate his seashell, and it's liquid contents. The film is an iconoclastic allegory.
