In the New Century, wolf-like laws and wolf-like appetites dominates the world.
Begin with a quotation from Dante’s “Inferno”, the film launches its leading role Tony, a mid-level manager in a midlife crisis who survives in the midst of the materialistically exhausted, decadent world of modern-day Estonian capitalism.
After his father’s funeral procession, which upstaged by a runaway car, Tony breaks from his previously normal life to think the value in being a good person. A pile of severed hands he finds there are just the beginning of his journey to the roots of his own morality, the beginning of a fantastic, surreal odyssey. His unfaithful wife is increasingly angry and his teenage daughter doesn't pay any attention to him. His boss orders him to fire all his factory workers. Then he tries to rescue a beautiful girl who has been kidnapped.
As he goes on a quest to discover the usefulness of compassion, Tony gradually draws away from the people and becomes unhinged from reality. What he questions is not only his faith but also the utility of morality. He is on the point of being lost in a crass, pleasure-seeking existence.
The director doubts whether capitalism and goodness can coexist, and what good is goodness when all it brings is loss?

电影以但丁《地狱》里的诗句作为开始，主人公Tony是一个中层管理者，他挣扎在物质匮乏、逐渐衰败的当代爱沙尼亚的资本主义社会中。
他参加了父亲的葬礼，当时有辆失控的轿车发生了意外。之后Tony从以前的平凡生活中脱离出来，想弄明白做好人的意义所在。那里的一堆断臂开启了他对自己道德的溯源之旅，它也是一次奇异的超现实探险。他不忠的妻子越来越恼怒，十多岁的女儿也对他爱理不理。老板又命令他解雇工厂里所有的工人。后来他还试图解救一位被绑架的漂亮女孩。
Tony一直想发现同情心的有用之处，却逐渐远离了人群，脱离了现实。他质疑的不仅是自己的信仰，还有道德的作用。他即将在低俗的享乐主义中迷失自我。
导演困惑于这样的问题，到底资本主义与善良品质能否共存？当它带来的全都是损失时，善还能否称之为善？
