Adapted from Mati Unt's 1979 novel of the same name.

Set in a Soviet-era tower blocks in Estonia, the film talks about six inhabitants united by a feeling of loneliness. They are eager for their lives to change.

The young writer, Mati, lurks outside the window of his ex-wife and also is trying to make unsuccessful passes at other women. The old bachelor-barber August Kask forms a bond with a little girl, but his approaches are misconstrued as pedophilia. The single woman who is also the little girl's mother, Laura, watches a sappy soap opera on TV and refuses men’s advances because she can't trust them, because of her violent drunk ex-husband. But she has to struggle to earn a living at factory to raise her young daughter. The architect Maurer worries about the wellbeing of humanity but ignores his own wife, Ulvi, who then takes an eye to a nightclub coat-checker named Theo. Some women take an interest in Theo but his social status keeps them from pursuing a deeper relationship.

These desperate oddballs find their lives intersecting in illuminating and surprising ways as they endeavor for felicity.
